There has never been an undisputed boxing heavyweight champion in the four-belt era. That will likely change after Ring of Fire, headlined by unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury . Usyk, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist, recently revealed which title meant more for him.

In an exclusive interview with BOXINGSCENE‘s Declan Warrington, Usyk spoke in depth about his boxing career. Usyk had won the 2012 Olympic Gold medal for Ukraine in the boxing’s heavyweight division. As such, when asked what meant more for him, the undisputed heavyweight title or the Olympic Gold medal, he revealed why the latter meant more.

My gold medal will always be better than undisputed...I did two Olympics and only got one medal...The Olympics takes four years but a world title belt is easy – you can get one in six months, or a year. Oleksandr Usyk via BOXING SCENE

Usyk still laments that he didn’t get the Olympic Gold on his first attempt. Moreover, he stated an Olympic medal is a dream for fighters, irrespective of the discipline. Furthermore, the Ukrainian boxer revealed that he knew a three-time World Championship winner of boxing who unfortunately couldn’t win an Olympic gold medal.

Nonetheless, Usyk also considered the undisputed title integral to his legacy. As such, he was extremely grateful to Turki Alalshikh for the opportunity. Usyk was confident about becoming the undisputed champion, citing his family, particularly his sons, as motivation.

Oleksandr Usyk reveals why he would take four belts home

Oleksandr Usyk is a father of four, two boys and two girls, with his wife, Yekaterina. On the other hand, Tyson Fury is a father of seven, four boys and three girls, with his wife Paris. Both fighters consider their family first and foremost in their lives.

Fury and Usyk have had tough fights in their career but have never lost. Fury’s trilogy with Deontay Wilder and Usyk’s two fights against Anthony Joshua are examples of the grueling fights. As such, both have the motivation to become the undisputed champion on May 18. In a recent interview, Usyk revealed why he would be the victor.

I will take them [Four belts] back home...I have four belts coming for four children; two for my sons and two for my daughters; one each. Oleksandr Usyk via BOXINGSCENE

Usyk revealed he knew he would get the motivation from his sons even before he had them. Similarly, Fury would also get the same from his sons, all named Prince. As fathers and undefeated professional boxers, Usyk vs. Fury has the potential to become the biggest boxing spectacle of the decade, even the century.
